Flu Vaccination Programme 2022 – Children

All children aged 2 & 3 years old on August 31st, 2022, are offered the Nasal Flu vaccine at the GP surgery. Other children in clinical risk groups only, may be seen here if not given elsewhere such as school.

Other children from 4 years of age are offered the Nasal Flu vaccine at school by the School Immunisation Teams, from Reception to Year 6 in Primary School. The School Immunisation Teams will organise Catch up clinics for those who missed at school.

Flu is caused by the influenza virus. It can be a very unpleasant illness for children. It can also lead to serious problems, such as bronchitis and pneumonia.

Children can catch and spread flu easily. Vaccinating them also protect others who are vulnerable to flu, such as babies and older people i.e. Grandparents or those with long-term health conditions.

Children with long-term conditions, such as diabetes or heart problems, are at higher risk from flu.

It is important they are vaccinated

  • The nasal spray vaccine offers the best protection for children aged 2 to 17 years
  • All eligible children will be invited in for this vaccine as soon as it is available, and we will arrange specific clinic times and send invites as soon as we receive the vaccines. Please make sure your contact numbers are all up to date with our reception team.
